ABSTRACT
Polynomial approximations can be used to establish the relation between two projections when their analytic expressions are difficult to obtain or the analytic expression of the original map is undetermined. That is, one can establish the relationship of the two projections from the theory and method of numerical transformation using some discrete points (also called common points or checkpoints). The method is called the numerical transformation of map projections.
