ABSTRACT

Many participants find the private camera conversation sessions enjoyable to take part in. The atmosphere is, perhaps, a little less formal than with some other evaluation methods and the idea of having the chance to be recorded on video can be appealing to some. The downside of not having any participant/investigator interaction during the session is that the investigator cannot control the direction in which the session goes. Interpretation of certain of the participants’ statements can also be difficult because when the tapes are analysed it is too late to question the participant as to what he or she meant when something seems ambiguous. Video recordings of co-discovery sessions can provide convincing material to show to those using the results of a usability evaluation. The focus group is a group of people gathered together to discuss a particular issue. A user workshop involves a group of participants gathered together to discuss issues relating to a product’s design and usage.
