ABSTRACT

This chapter provides more detail on the engineering activity areas that comprise the Scenario-based Engineering Process (SEP) and the artifacts produced by each activity. Its purpose is twofold: to enable analysts and engineers to understand the relationship among the engineering activities and the critical artifacts produced by each, and to recognize the role of documentation, knowledge acquisition, and analysis in the process. SEP starts with knowledge acquisition and elicitation activities involving selected users in the domain. Scenarios that describe the domain and the requirements of the users' work processes are elicited and documented. In addition to eliciting the requirements-related information, development teams should carefully document their findings and then conduct the analysis required to extract meaning and products from session output. The primary products or artifacts of the reference/conceptual level activities within the SEP include the domain model, reference architecture, and reference requirements.
