ABSTRACT

If new capital equipment must be added to the factory, there must be space to house it, or more buildings must be obtained. Equipment and tooling are related for obvious reasons: the tooling must fit upon the machine tools on which it will be employed. Worker skills are related to both machinery and tooling; any one of these three may place constraints upon the other two. The provision of facilities encompasses the planning, building, modification, operation, and maintenance of the various structures that will house the production operation. In an on-going enterprise, facilities additions will be made in response to the equipment needs spelled out in the resource specifications received from Production Planning. Provision of equipment encompasses the development of equipment plans, the acquisition and installation of the equipment, control over the equipment, and its maintenance by both routine and emergency work.
