ABSTRACT

Production of the product is the function that alters the form and character of the input materials into the finished component parts, which then are progressively assembled into the end-product. It is the sixth and last of the six parts of the Production Function. The bill of materials is the key to the massive amount of details in the production plans. For every part there will be a sequence of operations list, and for each operation there will be a listing of the machine tools, the tooling, the operator skill, and the instruction sheets required. The responsibility for providing these resources lies with the Resource Function, but that function does not exercise a materials conversion function. It therefore requests the procurement of the necessary materials for these resources and turns it over to the shop along with designs for the tooling, etcetera., furnished by the production planning people.
