ABSTRACT
Quite obviously, if a company is to be in the manufacturing business, they must develop a product design, and then they must procure and convert raw materials into that product. These two major functions of the manufacturing division occur one after the other in the life cycle of any one product, but in most manufacturing enterprises with a number of different products or product lines, they are going on concurrently. The things that control the manufacturing function are the mandate to conduct manufacturing in conformance with the product definition and specification received from the company overall management. Without money and facilities, nothing would get done. However, along with the authority conferred, there goes the responsibility to perform on schedule, within the budget, and to product definition specifications. The manufacturing management function wields the driving intelligence and force or the whole manufacturing operation.
