ABSTRACT
Variation is present in nature and in all man-made items. No two things are exactly alike. The differences may be large or small, but nevertheless there are differences. These differences can have important effects on the product and on the quality of design. Since the impact of variability is different from item to item and product to product, it is necessary to find means for assessing its significance.
