ABSTRACT

This chapter enters the realm of manufacturing jargon. Each manufacturing industry has a wealth of terms that do not always find their way into the dictionary. If found there, they do not necessarily have a definition of use consistent with that used in manufacturing. Many companies publish a glossary of terms to reduce training time for new employees and increase comprehension of terms. Obviously, the old saying, "a picture is worth a thousand words," applies here. Certainly, a walking tour through a printed circuit board facility with lots of physical product examples visible cannot be equaled by written descriptions. The written description does have the advantage of availability for lookup and review. Also, a detailed sketch can illustrate things not visible to the naked eye in the real product.
