ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 showed statistical concepts and defined how to collect and chart an initial set of data on a process. Chapter 3 went on to look at that data to see if the process was in control relative to chart upper and lower control limits and capable relative to product specifications. So far we have spent little time actually looking at charts to visualize what might be seen in practice. Following are six representative combinations of X and R charts labeled, appropriately, from 1 to 6. Each chart is discussed as it is presented.
