ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the kaisha in order that its universal impact on the electronics manufacturing and testing industry be understood. Once the demand on the domestic market slows, the kaisha accelerates export activities to maintain sales volume. The kaisha focus on those international markets in which they have distinct cost advantages. The kaisha attempt to increase their competitiveness by increasing the variety in a product line. But the kaisha contend that just in time reduces costs with a smoothly operating production run, and market share will be enhanced. The strategies, practices, and management styles of the successful kaisha were described and referenced. As in any country, there are also poorly managed kaisha with aging factories and equipment, poorly educated work force, and incompetent management. In an electronics manufacturing and testing environment, however, the survivors are, in the long run, the only ones in competition; and it is those about whom this chapter is written.
