ABSTRACT

An experimental design leads to a data set which contains information about how the experimental factors affect process performance. This information includes both the signal, i.e., the effects of experimental factors, and noise, i.e., experimental error and measurement error. The statistical analysis provides estimates of the effects associated with each experimental factor and helps people determine which effects or signals are large in comparison to the noise. The individual elements of an enzyme-immunoassay might include a surface coated with trapping antibody or antigen, a sample preparation kit, washing solutions, a preparation containing the enzyme-antibody conjugate and a preparation containing a substrate. The antigen, antibody, and enzymes are all large proteins or macromolecules. Hydrolysis is a chemical process of decomposition which involves splitting a bond and adding the elements of water. Chelex is a chelating agent which binds calcium and magnesium and other metal ions.
