ABSTRACT
This chapter is an introductory opening to a particularly broad subject and cannot be considered separately from the chapters that follow. The subject matters of these chapters overlap considerably so that the various entities can be knitted into an intelligible whole. The coverage must, perforce, be of a general nature and yet be sufficiently detailed to stimulate the reader to further study. The inclusion of numerous illustrations will be of additional assistance.
