ABSTRACT

This chapter contains the complete details of a practical exercise making use of the principles in specification writing and management. A 16-page specification that was difficult to read and understand was taken as an example. The difficulties it caused were due to a number of reasons of which the main ones were the following: there was much redundant information; there was much duplication of information; the ordering of the contents was very disjointed; there was no index; and the format was dictated by administrative procedure. The chapter provides a text of a functional specification for the provision of toxic material container maintenance workshops.
