ABSTRACT

In organizations that have responsibilities for the preparation of large numbers of specifications, standards, and similar documents, increasing attention is turned toward the use of word processors and microcomputers as a way to ease and speed up the task of document preparation. The use of word processors is attractive for the considerable storage and sorting facilities that they make available, to say nothing of the extraordinary variety of ways in which text can be manipulated and moved around a document without extensive retyping. Even for small companies the use of a word processor for the preparation of specifications and similar documents can be well worthwhile, because of the benefits that will result from the manipulative and text-moving facilities that are available. Use of word processors can be most helpful and time (and cost) saving. However, care must be exercised to ensure that "standard" requirement paragraphs are carefully checked to ensure that they exactly fit the context of the new document.
