ABSTRACT

The information systems to be reviewed are all multi-user systems. Several require 10 Mb or more of online data storage and 500K of RAM for data manipulation. The amount of memory and the disk storage requirements need to be planned in advance by data processing professionals working with the facilities planner. Coordination between facilities planners and accountants can eliminate redundant data entry and duplicate files of asset information. The value of a general purpose system like INSITE is that it integrates much of the fixed asset data into the space or room record, always showing where the asset is located, should an inspection be required. Information systems developed during the 1970s use data structures known as hierarchies and networks. Vector data is used to create room, building, and site boundaries. Symbol relations cover the active placements of standard library symbols.
