ABSTRACT

The final thing that a manager needs to do in the initial stage is to inform all other managers about the QFD project, its scope, and the team members. The manager must be willing to assist the team with its assignments. Sometimes assistance may take the form of beginning a business research study to find out more on a particular issue. In other situations, it may mean getting appropriate clearance for information. A product-improvement team will generally consist of development, marketing, QA, and manufacturing people. Ideally, prior to the QFD exercise, the team should meet to accomplish two things: first, to learn the scope of the project and second, to learn something about the QFD process. Understanding the scope and expectations helps establish priorities, so as the QFD process is explained, the team can get a feel for the amount of effort and information that will be necessary to complete the task.
