ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses testing of the assembly as opposed to thick-film testing or passive component testing. The testing of hybrid assemblies, although similar in most respects to other types of electronic testing, has many unique aspects. Most of the uniqueness of this testing is derived from the size of the hybrid assemblies, their construction details, and the materials used in their construction. Basically, hybrid assembly testing requires that the functional environment of the end use of the assembly be established in order to verify that the assembly will perform as required. Hybrid assembly testing systems normally take on the personality of the test system designer, becoming simple GO-NO GO systems in some cases and complex functional systems with considerable operator interaction in others.
