ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses one application and two additions that can be used with the basic safety data system: One, the application of identifying additional sources of harm through the technique called incident recall. Two, the addition of a module for collection and storage of workers’ compensation claims data. Three, the addition of an industrial hygiene data collection and storage module to the safety data system’s information files. The chapter also discusses the most likely candidate to perform the interview, preparation for the session, how to use the computerized safety data system (CSDS) in finding areas of high injury potential, and some specific employees to begin the interview process. It then discusses alternative candidates to serve as interviewers. One aspect of this technique that may have the highest payoff in terms of information about near miss incidents is the second and additional interview sessions. Further, the chapter discusses how the CSDS is used to prepare for the initial incident recall interview.
