ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about the preliminary work that needed to be done to get the approval to have a computerized safety data system (CSDS). These tasks included gathering information about the company, about individuals in the company, about the present accident/investigation and reporting system, and about what other companies are doing in CSDS development and use. The chapter also discusses development of the output documents for the CSDS. The final touches and adjustments to the regular report documents happen at the recheck meetings and through coordination with the information systems people. Another source of feedback is a summary report to management relating the interview process, the report formats, and the conclusions. The objectives of the interview are to review the prospective report formats and to discuss the system, its properties, and its benefits. The structure of the interview should center around these objectives and their accomplishment.
