ABSTRACT

Filtration and drying are widely used in waste minimization either to recover valuable materials for recycling, to remove toxic materials from otherwise benign wastes, or simply to minimize disposal volume and its attendant cost. Some examples are (1) the pretreatment of plating wastes for the removal of metals and cyanides prior to disposal to a wastewater treatment plant, (2) sludge dewatering prior to landfilling, (3) floe and sediment removal in water treating, (4) removing particles from recyclable oils, and (5) removing dusts and mists from exhaust gases, to name just a few.
