ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the proper environment for the storage of radiographic film. Image quality will be severely impacted if the film is outdated or has been improperly stored. The film can be fogged by heat, age, and light. Fogged films from improper storage will generally be dark because the film started out dark before it was exposed. Film that is exposed is very sensitive to fog in the darkroom or being left in the X-ray room during another exposure. Film is sensitive to pressure damage; consequently, film should be stored on edge never flat. Photographic chemicals should be stored under conditions similar to film in closed containers. Chemical and hazardous waste storage records shall be monitored monthly. The same environmental conditions for film and chemical storage also applies to the darkroom.
