ABSTRACT

A plague of plastic bags washed up on various beaches recently provoked complaints which were addressed to the naval authorities, in the belief that the unwanted material had been discharged from the nuclear submarines, whose presence in British waters has been the subject of much discussion. Recent experimental work uses sensitive analytical instruments to identify and measure the components of a smell. A practical application involves the correction and study of vapours from the human body. Artificial food is adulterated by the presence of chemical fertilisers made in factories, sprays and powders applied to control natural pests, and various other materials that nature never intended. Artificially raised chickens are allowed nothing but clean food and water in adequate amounts, and are kept in warm surroundings all their days.
