ABSTRACT

Mixed stocking means the release of fish of one particular species or breed but different ages in the same pond. This type of stocking is meaningful since fish of the same species but different ages feed on different natural foods and, in toto, utilize more fully the natural food resources of the pond. Estimates of mixed stocking of carp of different age groups depend on the biological peculiarities of the foraging ponds and on the nature of feeding of the given age groups in different periods of time of the vegetative growth period. Mixed stocking is done only in those foraging ponds which contain very dense populations of natural foods. Mixed stocking can be practiced for increasing the quantity of stocking material (carp yearlings), which is often in short supply. Fingerlings raised in foraging ponds in mixed stocking serve two purposes: to accomplish the target for growing fingerlings, and to estimate the productivity of such ponds.
