ABSTRACT
Besides the growing research activities, the forecasting studies are presented to give reason to expect a growing smart textile market. On the basis of the received answers the experts were asked to answer additional questionnaires in the second round in line with their fields of expertise. This chapter creates a consensus and a collective view of the future of smart textiles and achieves the involvement of key actors in Europe in the designing of scenarios for the future of the textile and clothing sector. Different forecasting studies propose very distinct figures, which casts doubts on the reliability of these studies. Assuming that the benefits of smart textiles which they offer to society and industry will exceed the risks and possible negative effects, a great number of materials and technologies used to create smart textiles as well as the products will be well defined and characterized in a standardized manner.
