ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with some simple probability distributions that are readily understood in order to develop an intuitive feel for the concept of probability. It continues with some of the basic rules and definitions of probability theory. The chapter shows illustrations of the basic theorems of probability in a setting where the answers are readily apparent and one can work backward to determine whether or not the theorems appear to be reasonable. It deals with problems of drawing cards from a standard deck with replacement in order to simplify our calculations. The chapter establishes a few basic rules and definitions that will enables to handle all of the work in expectations normally required in applied statistics.
