ABSTRACT

This chapter shows how the functional architecture of the aircraft system becomes the basis for all aircraft Systems Engineering analyses. In the commercial aircraft industry, marketing is much more than selling. Typical support functions include Provide On-Aircraft Support and Provide Off-Aircraft Support. Typical facilities functions include Provide Facilities for Storage and Maintenance of Aircraft and Provide Passenger Access to Aircraft. All aircraft are required, from time to time, to operate in a non-revenue mode, that is to be flown from one point to the other with no passengers or freight. The element of the aircraft that performs this function is the fuel management system, normally a separate software module within the aircraft. The Command and Control Aircraft is the function which provides commands to both the pilot and to the autopilot to control the aircraft and receives commands from this function.
