ABSTRACT

The Swiss breakfast known as Birchersmuesli combines yogurt with rolled oats and any number of fruit, nut, or other toppings. Albanian Nut Cake is a wonderful accompaniment to Turkish coffee. Brazilian coffee is the choice to serve with Brazilian Banana Cake , which also uses native nuts, while Columbian Cocoa Cake (Pasteies de Cacao), of course, is served with Columbian coffee, and Kerry Apple Cakes are sumptuous with a steaming mug of Irish coffee. Lemon is such a natural with fish that Bulgarian Lemon Cake is the perfect ending to any Black Sea fish dinner. Portuguese Cinnamon Cake (Bolo Pardo) is an Iberian specialty. Other sensational spices are featured in Puerto Rican Spicecake (Rizcocho de Especies). The Swiss use native cherries for their Swiss Cherry Cake (Kirschenkuchen), but one can substitute canned cherry pie filling.
