ABSTRACT

An emergency action plan is a fundamental and critical part of any safety program. Each place of employment is responsible for creating an emergency action plan, and it must be in writing. The goal of the emergency action plan is to ensure that all potential emergencies are included and individual responsibilities with regard to each situation are delineated. In the event that the emergency action plan becomes revised or is changed, communication concerning this must be made to all affected employees. A copy of the emergency action plan must be available to employees at all times which can be accomplished by posting it in a place where employees frequently travel. Employers are responsible for writing and maintaining a current fire prevention plan. A fire prevention plan will still need to be maintained, but it would only need to be communicated verbally.
