ABSTRACT

Employee assistance programs have proven to be quite beneficial to both the employee and the employer. The need for such programs can be seen in the increase of employee personal problems and their impact on the workplace. An employee assistance program is a program designed to provide counseling and support for employees encountering specific problems or difficulties, such as those mentioned above. These problems are often private in nature, which may make it difficult for the employer to identify and help the employee unless he or she comes forward. The well-being of the employee is the goal when an employee assistance program is implemented. Though this is the primary focus, there are several far-reaching benefits to a well-maintained employee assistance program. In order for an employee assistance program to be successful, it must be well thought out and planned prior to presenting it to the employees in an organization.
