ABSTRACT

The commitment of plastics suppliers to the automotive market is clearly demonstrated by their active representation in the Detroit area. Plastic suppliers to the automotive industry have the following objectives especially when considering the “presence” in the Detroit area: helping to deliver cost-effective solutions, develop prototypes, fabricate new modules, and provide quality alternatives. Plastics suppliers located in the Detroit area are fully committed to the automotive industry and, in some cases, consider their presence and capabilities extensions of their engineering departments. Steel and aluminum producers have not been inactive as their markets became eroded. Aluminium suppliers have been pushing the concept of their advanced recycling profile as a tool in their efforts to stem plastic’s encroachment of their market. Steelmakers have been trying to improve metal stamping and die design. Automotive specifications are met by each product meeting certain physical, chemical and mechanical properties such as density, notched Izod impact, pressure stress, torque, etc.
