ABSTRACT

The nasal cavity is a midline structure extending from the base of the skull to the roof of the mouth. The vascular supply to the paranasal sinuses and the nasal cavity is from the branches of the maxillary and ophthalmic arteries. The nasal cavity is divided by the nasal septum into two symmetrical nasal fossae. The maxilla articulates with the frontal bone, palatine bone, zygoma, ethmoid bone, nasal bone, and lacrimal bones. Inferior and lateral to the middle turbinate lies the middle meatus and inferolateral to the superior turbinate lies the superior meatus. The bulla may attach to the ground lamella of the middle turbinate or be separated from it by a posterior extension of the lateral sinus, if present. The inferior turbinate protrudes from the lateral wall with the posterior part of the middle turbinate. The anatomy of the superior part of the infundibulum varies, depending on the bony insertion of the uncinate process.
