Consultancy firms/organisations exist which offer services for conducting surveys, determining geological acceptability of sites for dams-tunnels-hydropower plants, hydrology, hydrogeology, flood control and drainage system. Quotations can be conveniently invited from such agencies through newspapers, giving scope of work, period of completion, general terms and conditions and performance guarantee. The allotment of work should be in the formal work order, stipulating special terms and conditions, specifications, work-size of holes, percentage of core recovery, permeability tests, deformation tests, survey by TV camera etc. Schedule of quantities with schedule of rates should also be mentioned. The period of completion should be specifically mentioned in the work order with a penalty clause in case of delay in execution of the work so that project reports/design criteria of the related work are prepared in time.
