ABSTRACT

The scraping tests executed in the research programme are only remotely related to rock cutting projects in practice. Many factors, controlling wear and cutting processes in-situ, are not included in the small scale laboratory experiments. It is therefore questionable whether direct application of experimental results in practice is possible. In the scraping test experiments the feed was varied in different test runs resulting in various graphs such as the specific wear or specific energy versus the feed and the rate of wear versus the feed. If in practice cutting and wear processes are unfavourable, they may be changed, for example by changing the cutting velocity or the advance rate or by a better tuning of the cutting device by changing the design of the cutter head.
