ABSTRACT

The ideas of solar sailing were first introduced and motivated in twenties by the founding fathers of modern rocketry, F. T sander and G. Oberth. However, only nowadays these ideas have become feasible. The development of large space structures of several hectares in area and their attitude control is a complicated science-engineering task having no analogues in the ground and space technologies and requiring unique approaches to be successfully implemented. The objective of this work is to make a comprehensive research in the technology enabling the development of space-based structures expanded by centrifugal forces, dependent on the nature of these forces, environment, and dimensions of the structure to be deployed. Structures of reflectors, concentrators, solar sails, and shields use both film (mesh) and tether elements. A parabolic solar energy concentrator also requires accurately configured surface of a high reflection performance.
