Burzahom is situated in Srinagar district, about 16 km northeast of Srinagar in Kashmir valley, between Srinagar and Ganderbal. The site stands on the ancient lake bed called Karewa (Uddar in Kashmiri dialect) at the foot of the Mahadeva hills and commands a panoramic view of lush, green fields in the immediate vicinity and the shimmering waters of Dal lake. The excavations have brought to light four cultural periods: Burzahom Neolithic I, Burzahom Neolithic II, Megalithic Period, Early Historical.
