ABSTRACT

This introductory chapter provides the fundamental concepts of machining, machinability, and machinable materials, along with the cutting conditions: cutting speed, feed, and depth of cut. The industrial importance of machining and its mathematical modeling is highlighted with real-life examples. A classification chart, illustrating the various types of machining processes and operations, is presented along with the description of each category of machining processes. A distinction is made between roughing and finishing in machining with the aid of a Table. This chapter contains ten MCQs with answers provided at the end of the book.
