ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author performs the detailed design activities to create the system specifications for the elements, their interfaces, and processes. She covers the “perform detailed design” and “perform systems analysis” activities and the associated detailed design and systems analysis tools. The physical architecture model shows the physical elements, how the elements relate to each other, and the physical interfaces of the elements of the system. The system elements are discrete parts of the systems. System design includes activities to specify the system elements to achieve the system and customer requirements. The system elements are selected that fit the system architecture and comply with the trade-off of the system requirements. Systems analysis in a set of activities that allows the systems engineering team to perform assessments of the systems and the system elements based on set criteria. It also enables the selection of an efficient system architecture.
