ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors discuss the concept of operations phase analyses that are performed to inform the strategic goals for the mission. A mission strategy is a pattern or plan that focuses the organization on the major strategic goals of the mission. A well-formulated strategy helps to provide a roadmap to achieve the mission. Typically, an organization develops the mission strategy within their strategic planning process, which typically has a three- to five-year planning horizon. The senior leadership should share the strategies that apply to the particular system mission with the systems engineering team. The initial system mission focus was defined based on the non-profit stakeholders’ organizational missions within the food system. The mission strategy for the systems engineering course was defined to identify the stakeholders, integration points among them, and potential solutions that will enhance food security within the Dayton community.
