ABSTRACT

Fundamentals relating to the thermodynamics and kinetics of reinforcement corrosion are elucidated, together with the modelling of chloride and carbonation-induced corrosion initiation and propagation. Factors affecting chloride and carbonation-induced corrosion rates are discussed. Prediction models for the length of the corrosion propagation period can be grouped as either analytical, numerical, or empirical depending on the set of conditions used in their development.
