ABSTRACT
This chapter is closely related to position sensors. Most of the position sensors can be used to sense speed or RPM as well. The chapter starts with a classical speed sensors - DC tachogenerator. It is followed with optical speed sensors stressing out the eventual differences between speed and position sensors. Next inductive and capacitive speed sensors are explained with the focus on the correct placement and material selection. Finally the stroboscope and its correct use is explained.
