ABSTRACT
This chapter looks at the terms needed to describe the properties of engineering materials and property comparisons are given for a range of materials. Mechanical, electrical, thermal, durability, magnetic and translucency and transparency properties are considered. The standard systems used for the specification of materials in the United Kingdom and elsewhere are described.
