ABSTRACT
Seal most commonly refers to as Pinniped belongs to a diverse group of semi-aquatic marine mammals. The seals are a widely distributed and diverse clade of carnivorous, fin-footed, semiaquaticmarine mammals. In ancient Greece, monk seals were placed under the protection of Poseidon and Apollo because they showed a great love for sea and sun. Most of the world’s seal hunting takes place in Canada and Greenland. Canada’s largest market for seals is Norway. Dried seal penis is used to prepare a variety of medicinal products to improve male erectile disfunction. But this is a property based largely on a belief and not supported by clinical studies. Whatever be the actual fact with regard to the aphrodisiac properties of seal penis, it enjoys a flourishing trade in many Asian countries. “Asian consumers, particularly athletes, also consume a beverage called Dalishen Oral Liquid that is made from seal penis and testicles, which they believe to be energizing and performance enhancing”.
