ABSTRACT

Fish collagen is rich in essential amino acids. Fish collagen contains 8 out of 9 essential amino acids. Glycine and proline are present in very high quantities. Glycine is biologically very important. It is vital for the performance of several biological functions in human body like building of bones, and muscles. Collagen is found to hasten wound healing and regeneration of tissues. Collagen peptides are in use as bandages for wound healing and as dressing burn injuries, help protein synthesis and extracellular matrix for tissue synthesis. One of the great advantages of collagen is that it can be purified to a great extent., It is biocompatible and can be converted to a variety of shapes and sizes, and acts as a temporary scaffold for tissue regeneration. Different collagen configurations have the potential to be used in a variety of clinical applications like bone void fillers, cartilage repair devices, wound dressings, haemostatic agents, nerve regeneration conduits and tissue augmentation supports.
