ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes existing cloud virtual reality (VR) cases to offer a platform for cloud VR business practices and promote its wide commercial use. Although the traditional VR industry is relatively mature, many problems still exist, particularly expensive terminals, no unified platform, and lack of copyright protection. In addition to China's policy to develop a cloud VR platform for service distribution and aggregation, there have been efforts to facilitate the formulation of cloud VR standards, which signifies a significant move from technical practices to commercial use. Telecom operators have unique advantages in networks, platforms, and user resources, labeling them as potential leaders for wide adoption of cloud VR services. Operators can expand the existing Internet Protocol television video platform to include cloud VR services and build a cloud VR rendering platform to provide cloud VR services.
