ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the topic of flow assurance by first defining it in terms of “what is it” and its relevance with the (challenging) oil and gas field operating environments. This is followed by an introduction to the “big five” solid phases that potentially impact the production of oil and gas and the transport pipelines. The summary of various flow assurance activities and the organization of the book segues into the subsequent chapters.
