ABSTRACT
This chapter provides detailed discussion on the foundation of deep learning starting from how the early developments through to the modern-day techniques. The chapter discusses the concept of artificial neural networks along with the principal architectures of convolutional neural networks and transfer learning. It also discusses various classification methods such as support vector machines and k-nearest neighbours.
