ABSTRACT
The longest record of a human holding their breath underwater is a bit over 24 minutes. With some professional gears such as oxygen tanks, some world-class divers can stay underwater for over 30 hours. To test if something will float on water, the authors can simply drop it in the water and see if it remains afloat or not. For a cloud service, the easiest way to achieve high availability is to deploy multiple instances of the service behind a load balancer. This chapter focuses on how to evaluate the manageability of an edge system. It covers how to keep manageability in mind when the people design their edge native applications. Formally, the bootstrap process includes a commission phase and a provision phase. Adaptive design has three components: data collection, decision-making and a call proxy. In edge computing environment, end-to-end security must cover everything from hardware to software and the communication between devices and cloud.
