ABSTRACT

The origins of sustainable development are often sought in ancient cultures, associating sustainable development with attempts by Socrates, Confucius, and other thinkers to link the natural environment to human economic activity. Sustainable development can be defined as a multidimensional development process involving complex, comprehensive, and multiple development as complicated and based on the recognition of local identity and participation, where all community members must share economic, social, and environmental efforts. Especially since the world is confronted not only with economic, social, or environmental challenges: creativity, knowledge, diversity, and beauty are the inevitable basis for dialogue on peace and progress, as these values are essentially linked to human development and freedom. Environmental issues always were being considered as the core of sustainable development paradigm, and taking into account recent global challenges linked to climate change, the climate change is among the priorities to be addressed by sustainable development goals. The interlinkages between sustainable development and climate change issues are identified, and the necessity for harmonised policies to address these issues together is outlined.
