ABSTRACT

This chapter covers flanges used in pressure parts in process industries. Selection and effects of parameters, circumferential pitch, flange width, size and quantity of bolts, and gasket in design of flanges, are covered in detail. Forces in loose and integral flanges and basics of the derivation of moments and stresses in operating and seating conditions are explained. Rectangular flange parameters and design considerations are covered. Other flanges such as full faced, O ring, blind, and lap welded are covered in brief. Examples are provided for loose, integral, and rectangular flanges. Standard flanges, their selection, calculation of rating, and comparison with designed flanges are explained. Philosophy of selection of flange parameters is explained.
