ABSTRACT

This chapter covers vibration problems normally prevailing in pressure vessel parts. The vibration analysis in tubes in the shell and tube exchangers (boilers) and in tube bank exchangers is covered in detail. Calculations of natural frequency are illustrated with examples. Damaging effects of vibration in pressure vessels are listed. Vortex frequency, buffeting frequency, and acoustic frequency are explained in brief, and equations for calculating them in tubes are given taking from Tubular Exchanger Manufacturers Association (TEMA). Natural frequency of rectangular vessels and chimneys is covered. Precautions to be taken to reduce vortex frequency in ducts are listed. Strouhal’s number is explained, and its value in the tube bank is given in the table for calculating vortex frequency.
